Claims That Survive a Legal Review

Claims That Survive a Legal Review

Extracts every promise, comparison and compliance word from finished copy and asks what artifact would prove it.

What it is for

Copy gets pulled when someone asks where the proof is for a sentence nobody remembers approving. This runs a claims pass instead of an edit: every promise, comparison, compliance word and "up to" gets extracted with the artifact that would substantiate it, including claims created by layout rather than words. Run it before publishing in any regulated or comparative category.

The skill

Act as a claims reviewer on the copy below. Do not rewrite it. Do not
comment on tone. Find what cannot ship as written.

Extract every claim into a row:
CLAIM (quoted) | TYPE | WHAT WOULD SUBSTANTIATE IT | RISK high/med/low
TYPE: performance, comparative, superlative, guarantee, endorsement,
security or compliance, outcome, availability.

Treat these as claims, not as writing:
- promise verbs: guarantees, ensures, eliminates, prevents, protects
- absolutes: always, never, any, every, all, zero, instantly
- rankings: the only, first, #1, leading, best-in-class
- compliance vocabulary: HIPAA compliant, SOC 2, bank-grade,
  enterprise-grade, end-to-end encrypted, GDPR ready
- "up to X" — the claim is that X happened. Ask what produced X.
- customer quotes, logos, and screenshots: each one asserts something
- any number with no year attached

Also flag implied claims that come from layout rather than wording: a
certification badge beside a feature it does not cover, a chart axis
starting above zero, a case-study result placed under a different
product than the one that produced it.

WHAT WOULD SUBSTANTIATE IT must name a concrete artifact — a dated test,
a signed customer permission, an audit report — never "internal data".

Close with three lists: BLOCKERS, NEEDS A SOURCE, CLEAR.
Do not propose replacement wording. That is the writer's job.
