Cutouts That Hold Up at Full Size
The four subjects that fail, and what to do instead of re-uploading the same file.
What it is for
Four subjects fail cutouts reliably — hair, glass, motion blur and low contrast against the background — and re-uploading the same file does not fix any of them. This says what to do instead, per subject.
The skill
The API is excellent on a clear subject and predictably weak on four things. Recognise them before spending credits. **Hair and fur.** Request the highest resolution the plan allows and check at 100%, not in the thumbnail. A cutout that looks perfect at 400px can have a hard halo at full size. If the background was busy, re-shoot or re-source before re-processing. **Transparent and reflective objects** — glass, bottles, jewellery. The tool removes what is BEHIND them as well, because it cannot tell the difference. Composite these by hand. **Subject-coloured backgrounds.** A grey jacket on a grey wall loses its edge. Nothing in the settings fixes this; the input is the problem. **Fine structure** — bicycle spokes, mesh, lace. Expect to fix these manually. Two settings worth setting every time: - Output as PNG, not JPEG. A JPEG cutout has no alpha channel at all, and the failure is a white box that nobody notices until it is on a coloured page. - Add a small `crop_margin` rather than cropping tight. Tight crops are unrecoverable later.
How to install it
1. Open the tool and start a new conversation, project or template. 2. Paste the text below wherever the tool keeps standing instructions — usually called system prompt, instructions, or persona. 3. Save it so it applies to every run rather than a single message.
