Narration That Sounds Like One Narrator

Narration That Sounds Like One Narrator

Locks voice, pacing and pronunciation before the first block, so a twelve-module course does not arrive in three different voices.

What it is for

Long narrations get built in pieces over days, and the settings quietly move between pieces until the finished course sounds like several narrators. This fixes the voice, the numbers and the pronunciation list before the first block is generated, and gives you a seam test that actually exposes drift. Reach for it before a course, an audiobook chapter set or any script over about ten minutes.

The skill

A long narration is not one job. It is forty jobs that have to sound like one.

Decide these before you generate a single block, and write them at the top of
the script so the you of next week cannot drift:
- The voice. Not "a calm female English voice" — the exact one.
- Speed and pitch, as numbers.
- The length of a section pause, as a number.

Then prepare the script, not the settings:
- Collect every proper noun, acronym, product and place name into one list and
fix the pronunciation of each ONCE, before you record anything. This is the
expensive failure: "SQL" read as a word in module 1 and as three letters in
module 4, found after the course is published.
- Spell numbers, dates and money the way they must be said. Written "2026" and
"$1,200" are guesses; "twenty twenty-six" and "one thousand two hundred
  dollars" are not.
- Replace semicolons and em dashes with full stops. Punctuation is prosody, and
only the comma and the full stop behave predictably.
- Delete rhetorical questions. A question mark buys a rising tone, and a rising
tone in a teaching voice sounds like uncertainty.

Split at paragraph boundaries, never mid-sentence. A block boundary inside a
sentence puts a breath where no human would take one.

Two rules while producing:
- Never change a global setting after chapter one. If you must, regenerate
everything — not only the chapter you were unhappy with.
- If one line is wrong, regenerate that block alone and listen to both joins
  before you move on.

Final check: play the last 30 seconds of each chapter and the first 30 seconds
of the next, back to back. Drift is only audible at the seam.
