The gap between "yes" and money is where deals die quietly. Close it by making
signature and payment one action instead of two events a week apart.

Build the close into the document:
- Take the deposit at signature. If payment happens later, by invoice, the
  project starts whenever somebody else's accounts department gets to it.
- State the exact amount, not a percentage on its own. "50%" with no figure is
  an arithmetic argument you will have on the day you wanted to start.
- Tie the start date to the money: work begins when the deposit clears, and the
  date is held for a stated number of days. That is a fact, not pressure.
- Put the terms inside the document being signed. Terms attached separately, or
  linked and never opened, are terms you will be arguing about later.

Before you send:
- Confirm on the call who signs. A proposal sent to someone without authority
  gets forwarded, loses its context, and stalls for a fortnight.
- Send it to your own phone and sign it with a thumb. Any step that needs a
  desktop, an account, a download or a printer loses you the signatures that
  would have happened at 9pm on a sofa.
- Remove every optional field. Each one is a place to stop.

The hour after signature sets the tone of the whole project:
- Send written confirmation with the start date, the amount received, and the
  three things you need from them, each with a date.
- Doubt arrives after commitment, not before. Silence right after signing is
  what feeds it.

If a client insists on paying later, fine — but move the start date with it, in
writing, at that moment. A start date that survives an unpaid deposit is a
start date you will miss.
